Abbey Industries Vocational Counselors and Employment
Specialists provide vocational training, counseling and advocacy services. Counseling may
be provided by Abbey Industries or Karl D. Warner Clinic staff. Training may be offered to
aid in the learning of a specific work skill, work hardening or to reinforce positive work
habits.

Abbey Industries Work Center provides short or long
term employment opportunities for individuals with developmental, learning, physical
and/or mental health disabilities. The Work Center is a light manufacturing setting that
performs sub-contract or prime product services. For some individuals, the Work Center may
serve as a short term training site, while they acquire new work skills or refine their
job readiness skills, prior to community employment. For others, the Work Center provides
a long term work environment where an individual can take pride in the work they perform.

Abbey Industries aids individuals in securing and maintaining
community employment. Placement Specialists help an individual
to identify their vocational interests and skills, in the completion of applications,
refinement of job interviewing skills and by providing the follow-along support and
services needed to maintain employment. Employers use Abbey Industries placement services,
as we are able to offer them: pre-screened applicants, financial incentives, reliable
dependable workers, individual or group placement options, cost savings, job analysis and
on-going job coaching.

- Supported Employment and Follow-Along Services
|
|
Supported Employment services include: job coaching,
counseling, advocacy, referral and follow-along services. Services are available to the
individual and employer for an indefinite period of time. Individual and small group
employment opportunities are available. Intense job coaching provided by an Employment
Specialist helps a participant to learn the skills of their new job, to develop strategies
that will aid them during this learning process and to insure that the individual has a
clear understanding of the employers expectations. As the new employee and the
employer become more comfortable with the individual's ability to perform their job
assignment, the Employment Specialist will fade and begin offering follow-along services.
Follow-along services include visits to the worker and employer at least twice monthly.
Counseling, job coaching or advocating for additional hours or advancement are all part of
Abbey Industries follow-along services. |
