Who are we? Abbey Industries is the vocational
component of Ontario ARC.
Ontario ARC was formed in 1954 by a group of parents seeking social and recreational
opportunities for their children with developmental disabilities. The children attended
school and, when they reached young adulthood, their families and the ARC recognized the
need to develop vocational opportunities. A small work center was developed and named
Abbey Industries, after Maxine Abbey, one of the childrens early teachers. We now
serve over three hundred and fifty individuals each month.
Located in the Finger Lakes Region of New York, Ontario County shares the best of both
worlds. It is a rural county of rolling hills, farmland and vineyards, yet, there is a
strong business, tourism and manufacturing base. There is easy access to the New York
State Thruway and we are only thirty minutes from Rochester, New York. |
Who do we serve?
Abbey Industries serves over three hundred and fifty individuals and
their families each month through facility based and community based vocational services.
Participants range in age from 16 to 70+. They may have a developmental, physical, mental
health and/or learning disability.
